⚔️ Act I — Overview

ACT I: The Raids ➝ The First Victory

1. The Raids (Flashback, 5 years earlier)

Scene: The Trenches, Sector 12 — the night everything breaks.

  • A short round dinner table, flickering lantern LED lights. Malcolm (45), a hulking man at 6’5 450 pounds of pure discipline, battle and determination he is still playful and laughing with his youngest daughter Teanna (13). They take subtle shots at the thick hot porridge like substance in their bowls. Malcolm still wears his arm gauntlets that activate his battered Maine Gloves, even at the table, because in The Trenches danger is a common as the porridge they eat. His wife Naomi (32) has tired but warm eyes, ladling a bowl for Shad (12) and his other siblings Aaliyah (16), and Caleb (4).
  • The moment is fragile normalcy — laughter, clinking bowls, Caleb spilling soup, Naomi smiling faintly as Aaliyah teases Shad.
  • Malcolm goes quiet, the rooms grows still as Malcolm for a split second turns to look at Naomi screaming “NAY THE KIDS”, then— BOOM. The ceiling shatters. Red floodlights pour through ruptured concrete. A squadron of VANTH MPO Droids crash through the ceiling with brute force and total devastation and begin targeting the family.
  • Malcolm leaps up, Gloves igniting with Black Flame, buried in the face of an MPO Droid, carving through the first wave of droids, they keep crashing down into the home reigning bullets and terror as the kids try to hide in the cramped kitchen. Naomi looks up through the ripped open ceiling, it’s not just them, the entire sector in under attack as she watches her husband get overwhelmed by the never ending collapse of droids. Aaliyah, desperate to help her father, draws her SEKLER .340 from under the table — but a round punches through her stomach before she can fire. She falls, chair clattering, finger trembling on a trigger she never pulled.
  • Naomi screams tells Teanna to grab Shad and Caleb and hide she throws herself into a feral animalistic like state and starts to destroy the droids ripping them limb from limb with pure rage and hatred. From under the rubble Teanna has them hiding under, Shad sees his father under a huge pile of droids, one of their faces opens about to deliver a blast at point blank before Naomi lunges herself over and destroys the mechs holding down her husband as he gets up from the ground a bullet pierces his chest. The behemoth is a man drops to his knees as does Naomi in an effort to catch him, more droids descend into the ravaged house, as he takes hie looks into his wife’s eyesone last time he utters “The kids…” Teanna shoves Caleb behind her, whispering “Stay down, baby boy—” as a droid’s fist spears through her back; she slumps forward, arms still wrapped around her little brother. The droid yanks Caleb free, lifts him by the ribs, and stomps. The scream stops. Shad who was also running after his baby brother slams back into the wall. Naomi witness this and the entire block stood still for a moment as she screamed a pain so loud that no sound came out but all the droids around her disintegrate as a bright white light engulfs the room. She begins to levitate in mid air her body seemingly limp she awkwardly lifts her head up slowly……

Naomi meets Shad’s eyes, crying but steady……

”RUN.”

As the words leave her lips Shad has a protective barrier surrounding him and she hurls herself forward, detonating a Nu’at surge so destructive its destroys every house on the block and a light so bright and white it looks like the end of the life itself. The whole block vaporizes in white heat, dragging her with it.

Shad, days later dazed, stumbles under collapsing beams. He claws his way out as rubble buries the dinner table forever. His childhood ends in that instant.

2. KC’s Failure / Awakening (same night, other sector)

Meanwhile, across The Trenches…

  • A VANTH-enforcer droid designated K-Class (KC) stands impassive in a burning home. Her directives scream: APPREHEND. EXTERMINATE.
  • But in front of her: Esperanza (8), a hybrid child with trembling hands. She whispers, “I love you,” before the MPO fire cuts her down.
  • KC freezes. Those words lodge like shrapnel in her core.
  • Something fractures. SYS-9 command strings collapse. Her directives glitch, repeating, skipping. She tears free. Only the second droid ever to break the leash.
  • KC disappears into the smoke, wandering, repairing herself, hunting patrols — obsessed with this unknown variable: LOVE.

3. Five Years Later — Present Day

The Trenches now are cracked concrete arteries lit by black-market neon, a carcass of human survival.

  • Shad (17) sprays graffiti across a rusted train car, headphones humming faint bass. His art is jagged: slogans against the Mechs, faces of the dead.
  • Sirens. MPO patrols sweep the yard. Blue light cuts across him. He sprints, vaulting steel… until a blast catches him in the ribs. He crashes — and lands on something cloaked.
  • The cloak rips. It’s KC. The same droid from five years back.
  • She rises, blades unfolding. Shad panics, expecting death. Instead, KC erupts with surgical elegance — tearing the MPO unit apart in seconds.
  • Smoke clears. Shad stares. KC stares back, wordless. He bolts… but can’t stop replaying the image: a Mech killing Mechs… to save him.

4. Life-lines (The Crew)

We’re introduced to Shad’s circle:

  • Rhea “G-Money” (18): grease-streaked, neon hair under a hood. She scavenges tech, patches wounds, and trades C.H.I.P.S. (the ration/UBI currency the VANTH use to keep humans dependent). Fiercely jealous, fiercely in love with Shad.
  • Mirah (18): weaponsmith, Kael’s blood daughter. Raised under his shadow after Dr. Araya N’Shoba’s death. Carries quiet trauma and terrifying potential — a Nu’at lineage hums in her bones that even she doesn’t understand. (Unknown to her: she is the only half-Ukani in existence. The reveal lands in Act 2.)
  • Stacks (19): sharp-tongued runner, always chasing Mirah’s approval and danger pay. Loyal, reckless, loud.
  • KC (hidden): now on the margins, orbiting Shad like a phantom.

We also glimpse the economy: VSN (synthetic Nu’at) coursing in hybrid bloodstreams like a caste marker, separating submissives from rebels.

5. X80’s Shadow

  • The underworld whispers one name: X80. A towering Mech Lord, cold, exact, almost personal in his targeting.
  • He controls TRX and FGC gangs by proxy, pulling strings in the shadows.
  • Unknown to anyone — even himself — he was the commanding general who led The Raids five years ago. The one who executed Malcolm. This truth sleeps until Act III.

6. The Spark — TRX vs FGC

  • TRX and FGC gangs ignite into street war. X80 feeds it, proxy-violence meant to expose resistance cells.
  • Shad, unexpectedly, becomes the broker — shouting in the chaos:

“We fight Mechs, not each other!”

  • For a heartbeat, rival gangs hesitate. His voice carries. The seed of leadership is planted.

7. Second Encounter (KC & Shad)

  • Another patrol ambush. KC appears again, saving Shad.
  • This time, Shad doesn’t run right away. He demands, “Why help me?” KC tilts her head — no answer. She leaves him with more questions than safety.
  • The crack in Shad’s distrust of machines begins.

8. The Assault

  • Using a mole inside FGC, X80 unleashes DFM shock teams on The Trenches.
  • Buildings collapse. Civilians pinned under rubble. Panic everywhere.
  • TRX and FGC both look to Shad for command. Somehow, they follow him.

9. Shad Awakens (25%)

  • Cornered, Shad’s bloodline flares. A glow erupts from his skin — a baby-blue resonance, controlled for the first time. He tears through DFM soldiers with raw hybrid force.
  • But the crush is too great. X80 steps in personally. The War God looms over the boy.

10. The First Victory (Finale)

  • James Okoro arrives like thunder. Massive, scarred, unstoppable. He tanks X80’s strikes head-on.
  • Kael descends beside him. This time, he extends Barca’s Edge — the dual-head scythe — its retractable blades snapping out at both ends of the shaft. Eira’s spirit flickers within the steel, his wounds closing even as they rip open. Reality warps at the edges.
  • X80 calculates risk — too many unknowns. He retreats, cold and wordless.
  • Smoke clears. James claps Shad’s shoulder: “Not bad, kid.” Kael watches silently, his eyes troubled.
  • From the shadows, an 8-year-old girl — Destini — watches Shad. She feels a pull she cannot explain.
  • In a distant command node, Mech intel tags her: “THE ANOMALY.”
  • Unseen below: deep beneath Zone 47, the Remnant — First-Pulse survivors tending the last Portal Grid node — feel Shad’s resonance flare and begin to watch him as their long-awaited Grand Resonant carrier.

Act I ends here: The crew survives, but scarred. Shad is marked as a leader. Kael’s scythe has tasted air. X80 retreats to recalculate. And Destini’s presence foreshadows something beyond them all.

🌑 Tone & Pacing Notes

  • Act I reads like a 12–14 chapter arc (anime season 1, cour 1).
  • Starts in horror (The Raids), pivots to survival slice-of-life (graffiti, gangs, crew intros), and crescendos in a massive boss battle that leaves scars instead of triumph.
  • Ends with that eerie, hopeful despair you get from the best first arcs (Shiganshina in AoT, Slums arc in Code Geass, Night Raid’s intro in Akame ga Kill).
